Dollar is one of the Hillfoots villages, lying at the foot of the Ochil hills. the villages each grew up close to the fast flowing rivers which come down from the hills. The water was used to power mills and the area was famous for weaving and production of cloth. Dollar is also well known for Dollar Academy, the independent school, founded by a bequest from John McNab, a local lad who made his fortune and died in 1802. Dollar is now a town of almost 3000 people. The other major landmark is Castle Campbell (Historic Scotland) which sits on the hills above the town.
