VJ Day, 17th August

We commemorated VJ Day yesterday in our prayers and in singing the poignant The Captives Hymn. It’s humility and relevance today spoke to us all. The composer Margaret Dryburgh was a prisoner of the Japanese during the Second World War in Palembang, Sumatra. The hymn was sung by the women and children every Sunday morning. The aunt and grandmother of one of our congregation were prisoners there with her.
