Supporting Others

Our 2025 Charities

We have decided as a congregation which charities we would like to support during 2024/25.

We have a “Home ” or local charity and an “Away” Charity, usually an overseas charity. Our charity collections take place on the 2nd Sunday of each month, with Home and Away charity collections alternating.

Our Home Charity is Crossroads Scotland  www.crossroads-scotland.co.uk

A not-for-profit charity with 40 years experience of providing reliable, responsive care to vulnerable people of all ages, to allow them to live at home, and whenever possible, engage in their wider community. Crossroads also provide support and respite for families and carers, as well as other specialist services such as palliative care. [Sadly, Crossroads have closed their office in Alloa but they do provide a valuable service elsewhere in Scotland, including Falkirk.]

Our Away Charity is the Ethiopia Medical Project www.ethiopiamedicalproject.com

The Ethiopia Medical Project [EMP] supports the Buccama Health Centre in rural Ethiopia, the work of which focuses on preventing, raising awareness and treating Podoconiosis and Uterine Prolapse. Both these widespread conditions carry a social stigma with sufferers often ostracized from their families and communities. Yet both conditions can be treated, and in many cases reversed, with some simple treatments. EMP is a small, Scottish-run charity, which operates with the minimum of administrative costs – so more of their monies can go to the clinic.

On-going support to The Gate Foodbank, Alloa

We are a collection point for the foodbank run by The Gate Charity which is helping to meet the basic needs of those in want during these difficult economic times. Donations are taken to the charity’s hub in Alloa.

There is a collection point for donations at the back of the church, which is accessible when the church is open between 9.30am and 5.00pm.

If, instead of donating food, you would prefer to make a regular financial contribution to The Gate by Bank Standing Order, the necessary forms are available at the back of the church.
