Parish Life

While worship in church is at the heart of life at St James, we aim to look outwards to: praying and working for a more loving, fair and peaceful world and playing our part in Christian witness.  As well as pastoral care for church members who cannot come to services, we have a programme of outreach and engagement within our local community and beyond.

Dollar and District Churches Together provides the framework for  Dollar Parish Church, and St. James’s  to work together prayerfully and to share each others’ concerns.  We share some services in Holy Week; pulpit exchanges when we swap ministers for the Sunday service and pew exchanges when the congregation is invited to attend the “other” church.

We work together during Christian Aid Week each year and at Christmas time to publicise services and events.

Charitable Giving
The congregation chooses charities to support each year: one “home”(local) and one “away”.

Our charities for the coming year chosen by the congregation are: Alzheimer Scotland which provides support and information to people with dementia, their carers and families, and Medecin Sans Frontieres, delivering emergency medical aid to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters or exclusion from healthcare worldwide.

Social outreach
Coffee Mornings held either in The Burnside Hall or the Parish Rooms are partly about fundraising but also very much about engaging with the wider community.  These will be advertised on our Facebook Page

Many members of St. James’s are involved with community activities within Dollar.
