We have decided as a congregation which charities we would like to support during the forthcoming year.
We have a “Home ” or Local Charity and an “Away” Charity, usually an overseas charity.
A reminder that our charity collections take place on the 2nd Sunday of each month, with Home and Away charity collections alternating. The first collection, will be on Sunday 13th October, for Crossroads. Please give generously!
Our new charities for October 2024 – September 2025
OUR HOME CHARITY FOR 2024/25
Our Home Charity will be Crossroads Scotland [crossroads-scotland.co.uk] A not-for-profit charity with 40 years experience of providing reliable, responsive care to vulnerable people of all ages, to allow them to live at home, and whenever possible, engage in their wider community. Crossroads also provide support and respite for families and carers, as well as other specialist services such as palliative care. [Sadly, Crossroads have closed their office in Alloa but they do provide a valuable service elsewhere in Scotland, including Falkirk.]
OUR AWAY CHARITY FOR 2024/25
The last collection for our current Away Charity, Médecins Sans Frontières, will be on Sunday 8th September.
Our Away Charity will be the Ethiopia Medical Project [ethiopiamedicalproject.com]
The Ethiopia Medical Project [EMP] supports the Buccama Health Centre in rural Ethiopia, the work of which focuses on preventing, raising awareness and treating Podoconiosis and Uterine Prolapse. Both these widespread conditions carry a social stigma with sufferers often ostracized from their families and communities. Yet both conditions can be treated, and in many cases reversed, with some simple treatments. EMP is a small, Scottish run charity, which operates with the minimum of administrative costs – so more their monies can go to the clinic.
Ongoing charity support
FOOD BANK
We support the food bank in Alloa which is helping to meet the basic needs of those in want during these difficult economic times. Contact person: Caroline Davies.
In these uncertain times for many of the most vulnerable in society, please remember our foodbank and be as generous as you can. The collection point is usually accessible when the church is open between 9.00am and 5.00pm. .
